Bluegill length-to-weight chart

LengthAverage weight
6″0.16 lb
7″0.27 lb
8″0.42 lb
9″0.62 lb
10″0.89 lb
11″1.21 lb
12″1.62 lb

These figures follow published In-Fisherman bluegill data for a fish in average condition — roughly half a pound at 8 inches and over a pound at 11 inches. Bluegill are deep-bodied, so a thick, healthy fish can beat the chart.

Why your fish may weigh more or less

A chart can only show an average, because two bluegill of the same length can differ in weight by 20% or more. A pre-spawn female, a fish fattened on a rich food supply, or simply a deep-bodied individual will all weigh more than the table suggests. Water temperature, season, and region matter too, which is why girth — the distance around the fish at its fattest point — is the single best predictor of true weight.
